Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Strategic Group on July 15 to finalise the opposition strategy ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled from July 21 to August 21.
The meeting will focus on formulating the party’s stance on key legislative and national issues expected to be raised during the session, which will be the first since Operation Sindoor—India’s counter-terror response following the May 7 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.
In parallel, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the Central government will hold an all-party meeting on July 19 to ensure a smooth and productive session. “The monsoon session of Parliament is starting from July 21 and will run till August 21,” Rijiju said.
Parliament will remain closed on August 13 and 14 in view of Independence Day celebrations.
The Monsoon Session 2025 follows a packed Budget Session, which ran from January 31 to March 25 and featured 26 sittings. Key legislations passed during that session included:
- The Waqf Amendment Bill
- Finance Bill 2025
- Appropriation Bills for multiple ministries and the state of Manipur
- Demands for Grants for sectors including Railways, Jal Shakti, and Agriculture
The Rajya Sabha also debated the functioning of key ministries, such as Education, Health & Family Welfare, Railways, and Home Affairs.
The upcoming session is expected to see heated debates on national security, economic policy, and electoral reforms, with the Congress and other opposition parties preparing to challenge the government on several fronts.
